SangSangai introductory workshop Pokhara, Kaski 21 August 2009 |

An introductory workshop on SangSangai was conducted in Pokhara on 21 August 2009 jointly organized by Youth Action Nepal(YOAC), Volunteer Service Overseas(VSO), Naulo Ghumti Nepal and Gtz HSSP Nepal.
SangSangai documentary and a vox-pop about the existing knowledge on HIV and AIDS among young people was shown in the program. Following that, SangSangai program on HIV prevention and Sexual and Reproductive health promotion was conducted among the invitees of the workshop. The participants we
re a wide range of professionals and social activists working on HIV and AIDS. After the program,. the participants applauded the efforts of Youth Action Nepal and possibilities to further conduct HIV awareness through SangSangai among young people in Pokhara was discussed. |

Celebration of World Population Day Kathmandu July 11, 2009 |

Youth Action Nepal (YOAC) in close coordination with UNFPA Nepal office, jointly celebrated World Population Day on July 11 with dozens of organization together. In the programme, YOAC demonstrated “Protection” station—one of the SangSangai stations. Many participants inquired about the station. The SangSangai facilitators explained them at the venue about the tool. Besides that, YOAC actively participated in the Walkathon from Baber Mahal to Jawalakhel where other more than thousand people part
icipated. With the slogan “Educate Girls, Reduce Poverty” the huge mass of people after all assembled in the ground of Jawalakhel. Finally the Country Director from UNFPA Nepal in the short speech focused over the opportunity of reduction of poverty through the education of girls at the persistent situation of global recession.

SangSangai on Love, AIDS and Sexuality in Kathmand and Lalitpur Kathmandu and Lalitpur April to June 2009 |

SangSangai is an edutainment tool targeted among young people that aims to create awareness on a range of themes relating to HIV, AIDS, Sexuality and Gender through a participatory approach. Youth Action Nepal(YOAC) has been implementing this tool since 2007 in Nepal.
As a part of three months plan, planned from April-June2009, YOAC was able to reach over 2700 young people(1300 females and 1450 males) from diverse fields in its endeavor to promote sexual and reproductive health among youn
g people. YOAC accomplished a total of 30 events(circuits) in three months to reach the large number of young people in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. Besides a large quantity of young people from school and colleges at various location, the programs were also conducted among wide range of beneficiaries like Social worker Student Conference participants, students of Nursing college, army recruits at Narayanhiti National Museum,and even among the conference of volunteers(organized by VSO) among different national and international volunteers. In Lalitpur, Community Development Campaign(CDC) assisted YOAC to link with the participants by coordinating for implementation.
All the participants appreciated the program, and urged the organizer not to limit the program merely to their places because there is an dire need of the program like this to other young people who are vulnerable to the transmission and infection of HIV. The participants revealed that through the program, they got knowledge on the transmission and preventive measures of HIV, including misconceptions, they also were able to develop positive attitude towards people living with HIV and AIDS, and increased sensitivity towards gender issues.
At the same time, Women Empowerment Action Forum(WEAF) is also implementing the program in Dailekh, a remote hilly region in mid-western region. YOAC is supporting WEAF with training/retraining the facilitators, supervision and monitoring and all technical aspects involved. YOAC will resume SangSangai events in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and nearby districts from July after the review of past activities and planning for the next months. |

Youth Pressure Campaign for timely Constitution Making Ratnapark and Nation wide Throught out the Year |

There is only 350 days left for the new constitution to draft, finalise and present among the citizens of Nepal by the 601 constution assembly members. Till this date there was not sufficient homework doen to draft it as because of the political fragality and lack of trust between the party resembling the govenment. Hence, due to this such turmoil situation, the ensurity of the timely consitution is slugging down with hopeless environment. But to retaliate and make the assembly members more accu
rate on their tasks, the national wide youth pressure campaign has been started. On Friday June 12 th, Youth Action Nepal and other leading individuals and organisations participated in the solidarity campaign to pressure the govenment to timely act ove the building of the new constitution as this is the last hope that citizens starts to feel now.
We are also sending the daily count down message through emails to all of the constitution members as well as to the rational citizens to build a national cohesin amongst all the citizens of Nepal. |

Youth Consultation for New Constitution Jhapa, Dhankuta and Morang districts 17, 19, 21-22 February 2009 |

YOAC conducted a “Two days Regional Youth Consultation” to collect youth issues for the new constitution in Biratnagar on 21st and 22nd February 2009. It was the continuation of the similar consultation of district level done on Jhapa and Dhankuta on 17th and 19th February 2009. Forty five youths from Jhapa, Illam, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Therathum, Okhaldhunga, Siraha, Sindhuli, Morang and other districts of Eastern Region participated in the consultation to identify the issues of youths t
o be raised in new constitution. These district and regional level consultations were moderated by Mr. Pawan Roy chairperson of YOAC, Mr Bishnu Khatri executive director of YOAC and and Ms. Bhawana Bhatta treasurer of YOAC. There was the representation of different profession, region. Ideology etc in the program.
The main target of this program was to aware youth about constitution, constitution making process and role of youth in formulating youth friendly constitution as well as to obtain the suggestion from youths of different level to identify common issues of youth to be included in constitution.
The participants were given extensive orientation on constitution, constitution making process and role of youth in formulation of new constitution on the first day. The next day participant acted as mock CA members. The 10 thematic committees were formed and the participants were dived accordingly in different groups. According to the parliamentary process, participants worked for their thematic issues as CA member. They collected voice of youth by direct interview and using other means of communication.
Finally the thematic committees of regional youth consultation made draft constitution as a suggestion to the Constituent Assembly.

Strategic planning meeting and Fifth Annual General Meeting Banepa, Kavre 8-10 February 2009 |

Youth Action Nepal organized its strategic planning meeting from 8-9 February 2009 at Banepa of Kavre. Executive board members, members, staffs, representatives from partner organizations and volunteers had made a sit together to review the previous strategic plan, activities and bring out a new strategic way to lead YOAC in a more effective and efficient direction for it work in youth and development in the newly emerging socio-economic and political context. In an extensive workshop for three
days, the team reviewed the best practices and learning from the past experience, the emerging environment in the context of youth, the vision, mission and objectives for YOAC to lead the future strategic direction which also included the review of some working issues, locations, methodology and principles. The effort finally led to four year strategic document for YOAC from 2009-2012.
Similarly, fifth annual general meeting of YOAC was held at Dhulikhel on 10 February 2009. All the members, staffs, volunteers and other guests were present in the occasion. In the meeting, General Secretary Gopi Krishna Bhattarai presented the annual progress report of YOAC and treasurer Ms. Bhawana Bhatta presented the financial report. Some queries raised by the members on the reports were clarified by the responsible persons/departments. The draft of the new strategic document of four years was also presented among the participants on the occasion. |

Nepal Youth Social Forum is a space to express the voice of voiceless, suppressed and oppressed groups, underprivileged, minorities, and socially and economically deprived people. To bring into reality the vision of social forum in Nepal, more than 2 Dozens of youth social organizations and national/international solidarity organizations in the coordination of Youth Action Nepal together organized the Nepal Youth Social Forum (NYSF)-2063 for the first time in Kathmandu. For the continuity of the
initiative, NYSF-2064 was organized in Nepalgunj of Mid-Western Development Region considering the importance of decentralization of the programs.
Nepal Youth Social Forum-2064 was organized in Biratnagar on 30-31 December 2008 in the theme "Change is Possible" as a continuity of youth initiation for social movement. NYSF became a platform to raise voice of voiceless people from backward and marginalized communities.
This event was organized with the collaborative effort of more the 100 organizations throughout Nepal. Different indoor and outdoor activities were held in the themes HIV and Aids, Restructuring of the state, Good Governance, Child Right Treaty, Conflict, Human Rights and Youth, Youth And Volunteerism, Employment, Ten Skill of Life, Role of Youth in Present Situation, Youth Issues on Coming Constitution, HIV Infection and Role of Youth, Youth Potentiality on theatre Direction, Problem of Youth out of the Mainstream, Youth and Good Governance, issues of youth, Dalits, women, marginalized communities, and backward region.
In the forum, 31 parallel workshops, 6 dramas, 55 stalls, documentary shows, 2 art competition, College Student Program, Informative Games, rallies and demonstration, cultural shows was organized by different groups and organizations according to issues raised by them.
100 local, regional, and national organizations were directly involved in the forum to raise the voices of youth and underprivileged.More than 50 events were organized and at least 15,000 participants participated in the two days forum representing 50 districts of Nepal.
The 18 points Biratnagar Youth Declaration' was prepared and committed by all the participants, guests, and invitees.

60th Anniversary Universal Human Rights Declaration Kathmandu 10th December 2008 |

Youth action Nepal actively celebrated the 60th anniversary of Universal Human rights Declaration on 10th December 2008 with the slogan Peace Dignity and Justice for All. Youth Action was one of the members of the organizer committee of International Human Rights Day Celebration. More than forty staffs and volunteers actively participated in the rally same day from Bhrikutimandap to Bhadrakali from 7:30 am to 10:00 am. Human Rights have been a major issue in war stricken country like Nepal. The
60th Human Rights was celebrated expecting long term peace in Nepal. The peace rally ended with a small formal program at Bhadrakali.

Youth Action Nepal in association with various organization of safe migration Network marked the International Migration Day with the slogan “Let’s respect the contribution of Migrants Worker”. The main objective of the celebration was to make people conscious about various aspects of labour migration. The program included Solidarity rally from Basantapur to Brikutimandap, signature campaign, felicitate the migrants and tourist at TIA, Street Drama, and Interaction Program. Volunteers of Friend
s of Youth Action Nepal participated in the solidarity rally held at Kathmandu. Apart Youth was also one of the core member of Safe Migration Network and core organiser of the International Migation Day Celebration programs.
Youth Action Nepal also kept a stall at Bhrikutimandap. The banners, stickers, press release and news letter of Youth Action were distributed in the venue.

On 1st December 2008 (World AIDS Day), SangSangai circuit was conducted in Nepal Commerce Campus, Minbhawan among college students representing different colleges of Kathmandu. The participants were first divided into groups, sent to the stations and they were given the questionnaires by the respective facilitators in grou
ps. After that, circuits were conducted within 90 minutes. Participants went through role plays, games, interactions and learning process. Finally, the group scoring the highest point was awarded with prizes and finally sent-off by giving vote of thanks by the coordinator.The participants expressed their pleasure to participate and learn through the program. They also suggested to continue the program and help young people in other parts of the nation to be acquainted with the issues. |

YOAC conducted four workcamps in different regions of Nepal i.e., Pyutar, Lalitpur of Central, Gadwa Dang of Mid-Western, Palpa of Western and Jhapa of Eastern Development Region. The workcamps are the innoviative idea to promote Peace, justice and Development in the community. The workcamp was conducted among the local youths and the socially active urban youths.

International Youth Day 2008 Celebration 9-12 August 2008 |

YOAC marked the 9th International Youth Day on 12th August with the slogan "Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action" with a number of activities and campaigns. Hunger Free Art Competition was organized on 9th Aug in coordination with Action Aid, Heart Beat and CDYN. Similarly, a talk program on "Climate Change and Food Security" was organized on 10th August in Hotel Orchid in partnership with action Aid, Heart Beat and CDYN. Commitment from young CA members was taken to address the problem of
food security.
On the very day of International Youth Day, a solidarity rally was organized on from Maitighar to Nepal Police Club, Exhibition Road. Anti tyre demonstration was done on the rally by carrying two tyres decorated with anti tyre slogans. About 300 youths from YOAC, FOYA, Heart Beat and CDYN participated in the rally under a common banner. Similar rally was also demonstrated in Jhapa, Dang, Bara, Nepalgunj and Palpa. Placard of slogans and paintings urging for addressing climate change and other issues of youth was demonstrated. Number of empty taparis was demonstrated in the rally to decipher the problem of food security. A street Drama was also shown on 12th Aug to inspire people for Hunger Free campaign. In the same venue, blood donation program was organized in association with KCC, and NRCS in the Judo Hall of NPC on 12th August. Sixty-three youths donated blood in the program. A stall of YOAC was also kept in the venue hall to provide information about YOAC and FOYA and to demonstrate anti tyre campaign. Movement to end all forms of violence against women Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu 27 July 2008 |

Youth Action Nepal(YOAC) has extended its solidarity to the movement to end all forms of Violences against women. YOAC has been selected to work in the coordinating committe to carry out this movement for this week. Various human rights organizations, members of civil society, human rights defenders and other supporters in coordination with Movement Struggle Committe against all forms of violence against women have been organizing relay hunger strike from sixteen days. Members of YOAC have also
been regularly attending the sit-in protest and expressing solidarity to the movement.
The moment has been demanding the formation of a high level committe to put an end to all forms of violences against women, investigate the murder case of women human rights defender Ms Laxmi Bohora and urgent law to address the all forms of violence against women human rights defenders.
On 27 Jully, a rally was organized from Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshor and a 20 minutes sit in protest was conducted. Various members of the movement addressed the rally and demanded the fulfillment of their demands. |

First AGM of Friends of Youth Action (FOYA) Youth Action Nepal, Kathmandu 20 June, 2008 |

The first ever AGM of Friends of Youth Action(FOYA) was conducted and a new coordination committe was formed on friday, 20 June, 2008.The program began with the welcome and short description of Friends of Youth Action by Arun Khadka followed by welcome speech by ex-coordinator Tulsi Giri.
Then the progress report was presented by kamal kandel and financial report by Krishna kandel. General Members were updated with progress report of FOYA since last year. Experience was shared by Sanjita Tim
sina and regular member Pawan Poudel.The general members, executive members and staffs of YOAC were also present in the occassion.
Similarly, a new coordination committe was also formed. Four members were elected for the 5 membered committee. One member was nominated by the coordination committe later.
The elected members are:

Co-coordinator: Pratistha Pokhrel
Members: Chandra Bahadur Thapa and Sagar Ghimire and Sharada Bhusal
The newly elected members expressed their commitment to work with more energy and enthusiasm for the development of FOYA as an example of volunteering in Nepal. They also shared their future vision for FOYA and its strategy. |
